I like my world to be in order. Learning to live undone, dependent on God and others and in full light of my imperfections, is not an easy task for me. And this desire for order can often turn into a desire for perfection. And, well, there’s nothing like having a child to knock the need for perfection out of you. Over and over and over again.

That doesn’t mean we should toss routines in favor of chaos. Or ignore the laundry and dishes.

It does mean we shouldn’t wait for perfection to enjoy our lives. Because perfection will never come.

There will never be an evening where nothing weighs on your mind. Go on a date with your spouse anyway.

There will never be a day when everything around the house is clean. Get down on the floor and play with your kiddo anyway.

There will never be a season where everything makes perfect sense. Focus on God’s faithfulness anyway.

Do you ever find yourself looking for perfection before you start living?
