This weekend we dragged out every. single. toy our daughter owns. We matched and sorted and reorganized and threw away and donated. And we didn’t wait until she was asleep. The kiddo was there the whole time. Sure it took a little longer, but I was surprised how well she did. And it gave us a chance to talk with her about how blessed we are and how other families don’t always have the same opportunities.

With Christmas coming, it was nice to round up random puzzle pieces and to see everything she has in one place. We’ve already seen the benefits of limiting toys by rotating them. Limiting toys makes room for the good stuff: contentedness and creativity. Since Christmas inevitably brings more, a pre-Christmas purge is a great way to keep stuff from becoming the focal point of this season – and our lives.

Do you do a pre-Christmas purge? Any tips?
