Our Simple Advent Plans

It's hard to believe we're already four days into December. We are (finally) into full-on Christmas mode around here, and I'm finding this Advent season particularly enjoyable. It's our son's first Christmas, and our four-year old daughter is starting to understand anticipation and what Christmas is really about. Which is why Dan and I are trying to be intentional about how we celebrate Advent. But intentional in no way implies…

Shaking up the Shortest Month

I've always found February (which incidentally I always spell incorrectly), a rather long month even though it's the shortest. It seems like February drags as we look forward to warmer days. But it doesn't have to be that way. We can intentionally look at the hours, days or even months that are the most problematic for us and come up with solutions. Here are some ideas for shaking up the…

Winter Bucket List

I enjoyed doing a fall and Christmas season bucket list so here's one for the Family Mission Statment We've been wanting to come up with our own family mission's statement since I read about it on Simple Mom. We've brainstormed but would like to finalize it this winter. Downton Abbey We don't watch a whole lot of TV but this show is awesomeness. We're almost through with the second season…

On Christmas Eve we baked cookies, watched Charlie Brown's Christmas, drove around looking at lights and finished up our Advent reading. Christmas Day we opened presents, watched Elf, read lots of books with our kiddo, had a nice dinner and occasionally checked to make sure there were no…

Bring on the 8-track Tapes: The Ghost of Christmas Past

Growing up, there were a few traditions surrounding decorating for Christmas that I'll never forget: my parents initially disagreeing about where to put the tree, my brother and I racing to find baby Jesus in the nativity set and breaking out the 8-track tapes and records to play Carpenter's Christmas music. Now, I'm still not 30, so none of my friends knew what an 8-track was and none of…

Deck the Halls

Our Christmas tree is up! And our kiddo got her own little pink! tree from her uncle and aunt. She's a big fan. The nativity scene is enjoying a spot up away from little hands. But our kiddo has her own nativity scene that her Sunday School teacher gave her last year. She loves rearranging it. We don't do any outside decorating but I'm sure glad others do. Our daughter…

Christmas Season Bucket List

Now that my bah humbugness has officially ended and the fall bucket list is almost complete, it's time to be purposeful about this Christmas season. It's so easy for Christmastime to become crazy and about everything but Christ. A Christmas bucket list reminds me what I want to do and also serves as a reminder that I can't do everything. Climb Under the Christmas Tree What can I say? It's…
